A worn Iron Age silver unit of the North Thames region / Catuvellauni, possibly of Tasciovanus, dating to the period c.25 BC-AD 10, Tasciovanus Berkshire Wreath type. Obverse: Crude laureate head right, [T]AS in front. Reverse: Horse stepping left, VIR above. As ABC, p. 130, no. 2616. This is an uncommon coin type, with one example published in the British Numismatic Journal (BNJ) 'Coin Register' (1998, no. 18 (CCI-981025)), and five further examples recorded on the PAS (BERK-A96943, BERK-C6AB07, CCI-820226, CCI-981142, CCI-992013). The BNJ entry suggests a possible focus or production of this type in Berkshire and those examples noted above that have good findspot data support this, with a distribution in South Oxfordshire and Berkshire.
