A complete cast copper-alloy pendant probably dating to the Roman period (c. AD43-410). The head of the pendant is in the shape of an animal head, probably a horse or a dog, with a slightly open mouth, two circular indentations as nostrils and pointed ears. The head does not have any discernible eyes or decoration. The shank of the pendant forms the animal's neck. The shank is circular in section and extends to a point. It is decorated with three sets of three moulded circumferential raised bands or ribs spaced, each set spaced equally apart. A circular-sectioned attachment loop extends from the back of the animal's head to the shank at the first set of bands. The object measures 38mm in length. The head is 18mm in length including the suspension loop and a maximum of 7mm wide. The shank is a maximum of 5.5mm thick. The object weighs 7.18 grams.
The object is very similar to several other Roman period pendants recorded on the Portable Antiquities Database (e.g. compare NMS-E0FC97, LIN-9FC476, BH-E44A46, SWYOR-B449E3), although this example differs in that it has only a single animal head.
