A complete copper-alloy crotal bell of Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1600-1900. Both hemispheres of the integrally cast bell remain intact separated by a median band which was intended to imitate the earlier two-piece crotal bells. A rectangular suspension loop with an elongated D-shaped central perforation projects from the top of the bell and is flanked by two circular sounding holes. The lower hemisphere bears an elongated ovate sound slot with circular terminals and the loose iron pea remains in-situ and functional. Incised grooves radiating from the sound slot decorate one half of the lower hemisphere. The other half is marked with the initials IH in a double-banded semi-circle, from which radiate more incised grooves.
The metal is black in colour and is worn. The bell is 34.4mm long, 28.0mm in diameter, and weighs 21.9g.
Similar bells have been recorded on the database as YORYM-6F6327, YORYM-ED733D, and YORYM-2141F6.
