A complete ceramic spindle whorl or ceramic bead, probably dating to the Roman to early medieval period, c. AD 43 - 680 .
The object is circular in shape with a flat cross section. The upper and lower surfaces are flat. The central hole has been set roughly centrally, and has an internal diameter of 11 mm. The shape of the item would suggest that it has been specifically made and not created from a reused sherd of pottery. The spindle whorl or bead has been made from ceramic, with frequent fine grit inclusions. The surface carries soot and is weathered.
The object has a diameter of 26 mm and is 16 mm thick. It weighs 17.02 g.
The spindle whorl or bead is a mid-orange colour with sooting. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in the loss of the surface.
