Roman copper alloy trumpet bow brooch, 40mm in length, 14mm wide and 6mm thick with a weight of 6.50g.
The brooch has a semi-circular, incomplete headplate, behind which are two semi-circular projections holding a bar to house the spring of four coils. The D cross sectioned bow emerges from the front of this and curves. At this point it has four raised thin bands filling nearly half its length. Below these it is plain and its reverse houses a catchplate scar, half the length of the bow. Foot and pin are missing.
The brooch is similar to fig. 187, eg. 439. Hattat, R. 'A catalogue of Richard Hattat's ancient brooches'.
