A complete copper alloy medieval buckle and plate dating from c. AD 1350-1400. The buckle frame is rectangular in shape, the outer frame is rounded and oval in cross section with a bevelled inside edge. The rest of the frame is D shaped in cross section.
The buckle plate consists of a sheet of copper alloy folded over the pin bar. There is an oval notch in the centre beside the pin bar where the pin sits, this is a piece of copper alloy that is wrapped round the pin bar. It narrows to a point at the terminal end and is D shaped in cross section. The buckle plate is worn and broken, and only a small part of the top sheet remains. There are remains of small circular indentations in the centre. The underneath sheet is sub triangular in shape, with a rounded projection at the terminal end. This is worn and broken, and has a circular rivet hole in the centre. There is no decoration on this sheet. The buckle plate is distorted out of shape, and no longer lies flat.
The buckle and plate has a mid green patina, and measures 36.9mm in length, 21.3mm in width, and weighs 3.42g.
A similar buckle can be seen in Egan and Pritchard 1991, page 96, number 435.
