MOUNT

Unique ID: BUC-B1ECC8

Object type certainty: Certain

A complete copper alloy medieval mount, most likely from a sword mount, dating to the 16th century AD. The main body of the mount is shield shaped, with one edge cusped, it has a triangular projection in the centre, and at the two corners. Below this edge is a circular perforation, at the narrowed end of the shield there is possibly another but it is full of corrosion. The mount then widens, on one side is a circular attachment loop, on the other there is the worn edges of possobly a second loop which is now missing. Below this is another circular attachment loop, this sits at ninety degrees to the main body of the mount. All the suspension loops are integral. The mount has a light green patina, it measures 44.6mm in length, 16.9mm in width, and 5.55g. Similar types of mounts can be seen in Read 2001, page 39 and number 371.
