A tall Post Medieval copper alloy thimble with a tinned surface. The top has become detached. The top half is covered with small round punched holes which spiral up the body of the thimble. The lower portion is decorated with a band of slightly overlapping oval medallions containing rosette or floriate designs within beaded borders and pellets between. This band of decoration is bounded on its upper and lower margins by narrow circumferential bands of double lines. No marker's mark is visible.

The form suggests this thimble dates to c.AD 1520-1620 and is of a type mainly imported from Nuremburg. It is similar to Holmes (1988: 3) fig 5b. See also examples in Read (2018, 43) and an example from the Mary Rose, which sank in 1545 (Gardiner and Allen 2005, 329-40, no. 81 A0807).
