An incomplete cast copper-alloy Post-Medieval double looped or 'spectacle' buckle dating c. AD1550-1650.
Description: The buckle consists of two ovoid loops with small lentoid knops at either end of the central strap bar. The loops are undecorated, but lightly bevelled with flat backs, this leaves the frame roughly D-shape in cross-section. The pin is missing its point and the strap bar is slightly in relief. The buckle is a mid-grey colour with some speckling light green colour patination. The frame is in good condition except slightly bent upwards at each end.
Measurements: 33.16mm long, 22.16mm wide, 6.25mm thick and 3.76g in weight.
Discussion: This common buckle type is reported extensively on the PAS database and a number of examples are illustrated (Whitehead 2003, 54), they tend to be dated to the late 16th-17th century.
