An incomplete post-medieval double oval looped buckle, of which only one loop and the central bar survives, probably dating to c. AD 1450-1700. The central bar is slightly narrowed at its centre. It is sub-triangular in cross section and flanked by two subtle knops, one at each end. The second loop is lost to worn breaks.
Dimensions: length 19.2mm; width 23.8mm; thickness of frame 2.6mm; weight 1.77g.
A similar example is illustrated in Margeson (1993:30, no.164) from a 17th century context , with an incised line for a pin rest in the centre of each loop. It is likely similar examples were in use earlier, into the late Medieval period. Cassels type 1.4B.
