Lead spindle whorl. Cast conical whorl with a larger and a smaller flat face and a central moulded aperture of diameter 7.7mm, Walton Rogers form A2. Patinated. The spindle size would admit an Anglo-Saxon date, while the mass may suggest this was used to sp-in a yarn. Opposed cuts next to the hole on the smaller flat face might represent a tying notch, and perhaps a change in function for the object. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 700-850
