Middle Saxon copper alloy mount, possibly a connector from a set of linked dress pins, dating to c. AD 700 - 800. Flat lozengiform plate with rounded corners. One face exhibits an engraved stylised zoomorphic interlace design within a line border. At either end of the plate is a rivet hole containing the corroded remains of iron rivets. The reverse exhibits a transverse scar with traces of iron corrosion along its length, possibly indicating that it was reused. Secondary attachments of this kind are relatively common in Middle Saxon metalwork. Artefacts of similar form which exhibit secondary attachments include: LIN-8FCB77 & CAM-A4DEEE, the latter described as a modified brooch.

Similar examples recorded on the PAS database include: NLM-A9E996 & SUR-D866BD, both described as linked pins, whilst DOR-FCD100 & WILT-C4F039 are described as mounts. The record for the example from Dorset notes "Linked pin connectors were typically attached to pins via rings through the pierced terminals. The rivets and solder-like material on this artefact may mean that it was re-purposed as a mount for another object, perhaps a box or book. Iron corrosion on WILT-B11376 and LIN-8FCB77, which also has a rivet in situ within one of the piercings, suggests similar reuse of such artefacts."
