Object type certainty: Certain

A fragment from a wrought copper-alloy Iron Age La Tène III type brooch. The fragment consists of the uppermost part of the bow and the spring mechanism at its head. Typical of this one-piece brooch type, the spring has four coils and the chord internal. The coil on the right on the obverse has been pulled out of alignment. The bow is rectangular in profile and very thin. At its edges is a seemingly stamped design of transverse ridges with variably-sized rectangular recesses between them. Since only a fragment of this brooch has been found it is difficult to specify whether or not it is a 'Winchester' type of Nauheim derivative. Dark green patina. Iron Age, 1st century BC/AD. Cf. Hattatt (2000, 290-291)

Class: La Tène III
