A very worn fragment from a copper-alloy brooch, possibly a Colchester one-piece, Colchester two-piece or Dolphin type, dating to the Roman period (c. AD 43-100). The fragment comprises the central section of the half-cylindrical wings and the upper-section of the now oval-sectioned bow. A very worn raised ridge extends down one edge on the upper surface of the bow. Surmounting the wings and bow is a broken central upward projecting lug that once formed part of the attachment loop. There is no other decoration on any of the surfaces, although most are scratched and/or pitted. The fragment has a dark green patina all over and measures 17mm in length. The wings are 11.5mm wide and 4mm thick, and the bow a maximum of 7mm wide and 5.5mm thick. The fragment weighs 3.51 grams.
