The mass may suggest this represents two ounces in either the averdepois or mercantile systems of measurement, and round weights of this approximate value appear amongst finds from the London waterfront (Egan 1998, tables 14 and 15). Suggested date for this object would be medieval to post-medieval, c.1300-1600.
