Lead possible spindle whorl. Cast whorl of plano-convex section with an off-centre moulded aperture of diameter 6.8mm. Shrinkage lines around the hole suggest the object was cast in an open mould or, given the slightly rough feel of the curved surface, perhaps a hollow in the sand of a casting bed. Patinated. The hole is partly burred over on the convex side. The mass suggests this performed a function distinct from that of most spindle whorls, perhaps as a flywheel, or for the plying of thicker cord.
