Lead spindle whorl or possibly gaming piece of early medieval to post-medieval date (c. 800 - 1650 AD). The object is cylindrical in form with a central circular perforation. The top face is embellished by rectangular indents, giving the impression of crenellation. The object has a light-brown patina. It is 25.54mm in diameter and 10.85mm in thickness. The diameter of the central perforation is 9.84mm. It weighs 37.40g.

Lead spindle whorls are difficult to date without archaeological context. Cylindrical examples with decoration only on one side have been dated to the early medieval and medieval periods, for instance: LEIC-4671C6 and LANCUM-A31FF2. NLM-377BEB in particular is a close parallel and the record notes the close similarity of these objects to early medieval gaming pieces such as WAW-B25F52, many of which are perforated. An early medieval date is strongly suggested therefore, but cannot be proved until excavated parallels are found.
