A complete copper-alloy book clasp dating to the Post-Medieval period (c. AD 1500-1700). The clasp comprises a long rectangular strip with bowed edges that is unevenly bent in several areas. One end has a rectangular-sectioned hook that curves towards the reverse and is squared-off at the end. Underneath the hook there are rectangular-shaped projections either side of the main plate. The other end of the main plate has thinner rectangular projections either side before the terminal flares outwards into a trapezoidal shaped area with a rounded outside edge. One corner of the terminal is folded backwards onto the underside. In the centre of this is a circular perforation on one side, as well as a circular-sectioned iron rivet in the middle and on the other side. The main plate is decorated with a punched design across the body composed of individual repeating triangles arranged in alternating sections of double waved and double straight lines, parts of which have worn away. The underside of the clasp is plain. The clasp measures 58mm in length and a maximum of 22mm in width at the hooked end and 24mm in width at the curved end. The plate is 2mm thick. The clasp has a mid-brown patina and weighs 7.86 grams.
