A fragment of a Roman copper-alloy possible trumpet brooch (AD 75-175).
This fragment is the lower part of the bow including the catch-plate.
The bow is bevelled at the front and at the top it can be seen that it flared outwards. At the top it is pointe-oval in cross-section. The protruding foot knob is 'D'-shaped as viewed from the underside and at the front it has two parallel horizontal grooves as decoration. The rear face has a central catch-plate which extends from the break to the base. The curled-over part that secured the pin-tip is missing.
This brooch has a pitted matt green patina overall with white deposits at the front.
