An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy composite buckle with an integral forked spacer and separate copper-alloy sheet plates (c. 1350-c. 1450). The loop is similar to a a Meols Type 4.

The pin is missing.

The oval frame measures c. 19.5mm in length, 22.0mm in width and 2.2mm in thickness. It is bevelled at the front externally and is flat at the rear with limited bevelling internally. It has a triangular lip at the outside edge. The spacers are mainly obscured by the plate but may be 'L'-shaped in plan. There is a sub-circular aperture for the missing pin loop. Both plates are plain and undecorated. The front plate is rectangular, 20.7mm in length and 11.6mm in width, and has two small triangular cut-outs at the attachment end. The rear plate measures 19.4mm with a width of 11.7mm and has no cut-outs but has a ragged edge. At the centre of the attachment end there is a copper-alloy rivet through both plates. Each rivet head is flat. The thickness at the attachment end is 3.7mm.

This buckle frame and spacers have a dark green shiny patina and the plates have a lighter green patina. The remains of a woollen girdle survive between the plates. File marks can be seen on the frame as well as the edges of the spacers.

Overall length: 42.8mm; length of frame: 19.5mm; width of frame: 22.0mm; thickness: of frame: 2.2mm. Weight: 5.40g.
