WEIGHT

Unique ID: NLM-889A4E

Object type certainty: Possibly
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Copper alloy possible weight. A cast disc with bevelled edge, and with both sides now occupied by a dense and loosely concentric mass of scratched or incised lines. A pit of diameter w.7mm lies off-centre on one side, and the edges are, or rather were, given the abraded condition, formerly bevelled. The mass might suggest this to have been a weight, possibly representing one quarter of an averdepois ounce, though some fabric must have been lost. The damage seems too severe to have arisen by casual abrasion in the soil, and might rather evidence the handiwork of a naughty and destructive child. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1800

Diameter: 21mm, Thickness: 4.5mm, Weight: 6.80gms
