An incomplete post-Medieval copper-alloy and gilded mount (c. 1500-c. 1600).
One spike is incomplete due to a break.
This mount is flat at the front and rear. At the front each end is raised or proud forming a central recessed area. The recessed area is 13.5mm in length and is decorated with a stamped quatrefoil flower motif. Each petal is sub-circular and the centre of the flower is formed by an annulet. The annulet and background are cross-hatched. On the front, at each end, decoration is in the form of three longitudinal parallel lines of stamped annulets. Some of these annulets are contiguous. The rear face is flat and has two integral spikes, one at each end. The spikes are sub-rectangular in cross-section.
The mount is generally green with a small amount of corrosion on the rear face. The front is gilded and the break is old.
Length: 27.0mm; width: 9.0mm; thickness: 2.1mm; thickness including spike: 19.9mm. Weight: 5.13g.
