A complete Medieval silver short cross cut halfpenny of John (1199-1216), minted by Walter at London. Class 5c-6b1, 1207-1215 (North 1994: 221-222, refs: 971-975/1).

Obverse: [hEN]RICVS [REX]; Crowned bust facing without sceptre.

Reverse: WA[ ]·LVN (VN ligated); Voided short cross with a quatrefoil in each quadrant.

Diameter: 17.3mm. Weight: 0.55g. DA=12:8.

North, J.J. 1994. English Hammered Coinage, Volume I, Early Anglo Saxon to Henry III, c. 600-1272. Spink & Son, London.

The coin seems to have been partially cut along the void, rather than being post depositional damage.
