Large fragment of a Silver sixpence of Elizabeth I (1558-1603) fifth issue. The coin exhibits a ragged edge from post depositional damage. A radial crack travels from the left centre of the shield at an angle of 10 o'clock to the border. The surface of the coin is abraded.
Obverse: Crowned bust, left, with rose behind. Obverse inscription: [ELIZ]ABETH DG:ANG:FR:ET[:HIB:REGINA]
Reverse: Long cross fourcheé over royal shield with date of 1581 above, m.m not clear but probably long cross. Reverse inscription: PO[SVI DEV ADIVIT]OREM MEV
Condition: Worn, fine.
