Medieval (mid 14th to early 15th century) buckle: The copper alloy buckle frame is missing, what remains is the arm of an integral spacer and a fragment of the frame. Integral to the strap bar is a forked spacer where one arm remains which tapers to a blunt point. The exterior edge has a straight edge, the interior edge tapers. The arm is curved forming a V-shape which is not intentional. The pin is missing.
The surface of the buckle frame has a dark grey patina which is slightly abraded.
The buckle frame and spacer measures 24.66mm long and 14.59mm wide. It weighs 3.87g.
Margeson (1993) illustrates a similar example, No. 137 and dates this to the 14th century. Egan and Pritchard (Egan and Pritchard 2002) illustrate similar buckles with integral spacers (Nos. 322 to 330) which are dated to the mid 14th to early 15th century.
