Late Iron Age-Roman brooch, probably a Langton Down type (Mackreth 2011, Chap. 2, Part 2. Gp. 2.b2): The copper alloy brooch is incomplete; it has cylindrical wings, although this is incomplete. The spring and axis bar are housed within the wings. The pin is missing.
The bow protrudes from the lower edge of the wings and is a slender rectangle in section and tapers to a broken edge, between the mid point and wings. The exterior is decorated with five vertical ridges.
The surface of the brooch has an incomplete light brown patina.
The brooch measures 18.02mm long, 18.58mm wide and weighs 3.39g.
The type of brooch is probably a Langton Down type when considering the cylindrical housing for the axis bar, which probably dates to the 1st century AD. It can be further classified as a Mackreth 2011, Chap. 2, Part 2. Gp. 2.b2.
