Copper alloy weight, kindly identified as a coin weight by the finder, who ascribes the object to the reign of Charles I (1625-1649). A cast flat-sided cylindrical weight with marks on one side: these are a central dot from finishing on a lathe; the stamped crowned letter C; and a symbol superficially resembling a teapot, comprising a globe with an oval loop and pelleted stem above it flanked by curvilinear marks. The round form would suggest manufacture after 1632 for a coin weight (Withers and Withers 2011, page 16); however, the mass does not immediately indicate a particular denomination. The marks may rather represent counter-stamping of the weight after official inspection - possibly twice, and at least once during the reign of either Charles I or Charles II (1660-1685)- and it may have represented a slightly underweight eighth of an averdepois ounce. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1625-1685
