BUCKLE

Unique ID: SUSS-3BF9E5

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A cast copper-alloy oval buckle frame with an ornate outer edge and an in situ buckle plate. The buckle frame has a moulded knop made up of three ridges. The buckle has narrowed and off-set strap bar. The pin also survives in situ and it is intact. The buckle plate is trapezoidal. It is now very badly damaged and bent. Both plates survive, but the back plate only extends down far enough to hold two copper alloy rivets, to keep the buckle frame in place. Similar buckles can be seen in Egan and Pritchard, p75. Buckle frame length = 17.73mm, width = 19.61mm, thickness = 4.35mm. Buckle plate length = 20.40mm, width = 12.40mm, thickness = 0.42mm.
