An incomplete copper alloy Colchester derivative, rear hook brooch of Roman date (AD 43-100). The brooch consists of the head and a section of the bow. The head is formed of two C-sectioned wings which would have held the spring which is missing. The top of the head juts out slightly in the characteristic "dolphin" curve and contains the projecting perforated lug which would hold the crossbar. The bow tapers slightly from the head to an old breakage. The spring, pin, foot and catchplate are missing.
The metal is a greenish brown with a pitted patina.
Length: 44.99mm, Width: 32.26mm, Thickness: 6.19mm, Weight: 11.4g.
