An uniface, post-medieval lead-alloy token dating to c AD 1500-1700 (Powell type 12). The token is broadly circular but has damage in places and is slightly bent. The decorated side has a plain equal armed cross extending to the edges of the token and a crude, irregular chevron consisting of three radiating lines in each quarter. The reverse is fairly smooth and was probably plain. The surface is eroded and the patina mostly grey with beige areas. The token weighs 1.85g and has a diameter of 16.0mm and a thickness of 1.3mm..
Lead tokens had a wide variety of potential uses such as use as tallies, gaming pieces, tickets, weights, etc. and are believed to have been locally produced; they are therefore difficult to date precisely. The decoration on this token appears to fit in Powell type 12, quartered geometric. See PowellClassification for Lead Tokens online at http://www.mernick.org.uk/leadtokens/Classification_System.pdf.
