A medieval copper alloy harness pendant in the form of a slightly convex shield with a round suspension loop which has broken. The device comprises a design of six lions divided into groups of three by a triple diagonal line with traces of raised blue enamel in the field. (blazoned: azure a bend argent, cotised or between six lions rampant or.). Late 14th century.

Notes:

These are the arms of the De Bohun family, Earls of Hereford and Essex and were bourne by several members of the family in turn. They were important landowners and many harness pendants with their arms have been recorded, examples on this database range from Northumberland to Cornwall.
