It has a central oval boss with a large circular aperture running from front to back through it, a convex front and a concave back . From either side of this boss extend straight arms that are semi-circular in section with flat back and rounded front. The arms taper in width from the centre to the rounded ends. The terminals of each arm have a central circular aperture which widens from the front to the back; one has the remains of a separate copper alloy rivet in situ. This mount now measures 21.9mm in length, 9.7mm in width at central boss, 2.1mm in thickness at central boss, and weighs 0.73g.
This bar mount is similar to examples with more defined terminals from London excavations (Egan and Pritchard, 1991, 214 nos. 1154, 1158), of Medieval date, c.13th-14th centuries AD.2019-01-02 15:05:132019-01-02 15:05:43412018-09-032018-11-051Certain112929PAS5C2CD3290017C87141SOMCopper alloy10627CastCompleteMEDIEVALMDx14221p0gjgrsxwzxMEDIEVALMDx14221p0gjgrsxwzxMetal detectorCircaCirca93096220616201932022441427SU0698SU0698SU09NE51.68073262-1.9146180461001040129SOMCD3297.JPG2421325Medieval bar mountSomerset County Council4images/elburnett/South WestCultivated landEuropean RegionCountyGloucestershireDistrictCotswoldCivil Parish51.6729-1.92068South CerneyReturned to finder137076
