Post medieval copper alloy (probably tombac or brass) button, possibly silver coated. The button is globular, circular in plan and oval on cross section with a white inset, probably glass, at the centre of the front and incised shallow S-shaped curved lines running from this central inset on the front to the loop at the centre of the back in a wrythen pattern. The loop appears to be integral and is circular with a circular hole and no stem. The button is 10.2mm in diameter, 11.9mm tall including the loop, 8.2mm excluding it and weighs 4.05g.

While the black corrosion is more typical of silver examples the solid cast weight and the golden colour showing through in scratches suggest this piece is mostly brass, perhaps with a silver coating. The use of such globular button in clothing and particularly boots was popular in the 18th-early 20th centuries.
