Modern copper alloy button. It is 16.2mm in diameter, weighs 1.3g, and has 2 centrally located 2.6mm diameter attachment holes within an 8.3 x 5.2mm oval recess. It has impressed lettering with J. GODDARD CARLTON around the edge, and retains some of its original black japanned finish.
John Goddard is listed in trade directories as being in business as a tailor in Carlton in 1870 and 1877, but is not mentioned in the 1863 or 1881 directories (although William Goddard is in the 1861 and 1863 editions as a tailor, and is presumably related).
Recorded as of local interest.
