A lead-alloy steelyard weight of probable Roman date (AD 43-410). The weight is roughly bi-conical in form consisting of a flat upper-section and a sub-hemispherical lower section which expands towards the broad circumferential ridge that joins the two halves together. On top of the weight is the remaining part of a central iron circular-sectioned suspension loop that is either broken or bent over so that it lies on the upper surface of the weight. Many of the surviving surfaces are in general very worn and uneven - possibly even mis-cast - in places, with several areas of pitting on the upper surface especially. The weight is otherwise plain and undecorated. The weight measures 30mm in height including the suspension loop and is 43mm in diameter. It weighs 229.98 grams.
