A copper alloy buckle or brooch pin of Medieval date, about AD 1200 - 1500. Its decorative element, and length (43.39mm), suggest it belonged to an annular brooch. The pin is of D shaped cross-section and tapers slightly in width, which at its maximum is 5.95mm, and is 1.6mm thick. The pin terminates in an integral loop which is formed by bending the strip back on itself, and is 6.5mm thick. The loop is decorated with two curved incised lines on the upper face, following the tapering edge of the loop. The pin has a weight of 3.48g. On its upper face it is decorated with a flat panel ornamented with five stamped annulets arranged in a quincunx, in similar fashion to the 'five' face on a gaming die or playing card.
See YORYM-766AA7 for a similar find deemed to be a buckle fitting and compared to similar examples in Egan and Pritchard, p.115, fig.75, and FAKL-C68E56 for a more complete example deemed to be a brooch. Compare also DENO-3E3736, SOM-39B591 and DENO-E362F7.
