CROTAL

Unique ID: LEIC-165B1E

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

The upper half and suspension loop of a medieval crotal bell. The lower edge of the bell fragment has eight semi-circular protruding blunt raised projections, presumably the remains of an openwork lower half suggesting the bell was sounded by a clapper rather than a pea.. Unlike a similar object recovered nearby (LEIC-83E1A1) the upper face has no apparent applied design, although this may be obscured by corrosion. The inner face of the lower surface has remains of iron corrosion possibly from the original iron clapper. The object is in fair condition, is 30mm in diameter, 30mm thick and weighs 23.48g.
