Copper alloy brooch fragment. Cast bow and fantail brooch, Mackreth type TR 4.1a. A circular mid bow plate has a separate central hemispherical knob which is attached by twin flat lugs which pass through the plate and are splayed against its back. The plate is divided into six cells retaining greyish material, and has a bordering gutter. Below this is a triangular foot divided into three triangular cells with a reserved triangle between them, and with incised grooves running round its border. A folded catch plate remains behind the foot. The foot is now bent forward; the head and pin gear are lost. Suggested date: Early Roman, 80-150
