PLANO CONVEX KNIFE

Unique ID: NLM-94CA58

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Grey flint plano-convex knife, as kindly identified by the finder. An oval flake with broad and narrow parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side by unidirectional working, and with a flat to slightly concave ventral surface. The object bears a positive hinge fracture at one end. A thick creamy patina has developed overall, indicating the object has endured prolonged exposure to a calcareous environment, and it has been glossed, perhaps by wind-blown sand, and subsequently chipped along its edges post-deposition. A single chip revealing the tint of the flint is more recent. Suggested date: Early Mesolithic, 10,000-7000 BC

Length: 59mm, Width: 27.6mm, Thickness: 12.2mm, Weight: 20.69gms
