CROTAL

Unique ID: LEIC-83E1A1

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

The upper half and suspension loop of a medieval crotal bell. The lower edge of the bell fragment has eight semi-circular protruding blunt raised projections, presumably the remains of an openwork lower half suggesting the bell was sounded by a clapper rather than a pea.. The upper face has three impressed decorative panels, each with a circular outline containing an unclear, possibly shield-like, design. The inner face of the lower surface has remains of iron corrosion possibly from the original iron clapper. The object is in fair condition, is 28mm in diameter, 26mm thick and weighs 23.50g.
