An incomplete copper alloy buckle-plate component of probable Medieval to Post Medieval date (c. AD 1200 - 1600). The object shares similarities to the forked spacers of Medieval composite buckles (see Whitehead 1996: 36-7), upon which would have been attached sheet plates. This example, however, is rectangular in plan with the two prongs of the fork joined by a straight vertical bar just before they taper to slightly splayed out sharp points. At the opposite end of the object is a hollow cylindrical bar, which may have been attached to the buckle frame. The hollow recess is now filled with detritus. The object has a dark green patrina.
The only other parallel found on the PAS database is LANCUM-8F6E7E.
The overall dimensions are as follows: 15.92mm in length, 31.97mm in width, 2.97mm in thickness and 2.61g in weight.
