BORER

Unique ID: NLM-7CB9B5

Object type certainty: Possibly
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Pale grey flint possible borer. Triangular flake with invasive angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect, and with a bulb on its undulating ventral surface. The appearance of serrated edges may arise from fortuitous edge-on impacts, but the form appears to be deliberately tapered towards a point [now lost] Creamy patina suggests a period of exposure to a calcareous environment, while orange spots - more frequent than on the accompanying material - may suggest it subsequently became incorporated in gravel. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC.

Length: 28.1mm, Width: 27.3mm, Thickness: 6.1mm, Weight: 4.20gms
