An incomplete cast copper-alloy gilt buckle plate dating to the Medieval period, c. 1250-1400. Only the upper half of the plate survives, its accompanying backplate missing in an old break. In plan the buckle plate is sub-triangular in plan, with a rounded cusped terminal and slightly tapering sides. At its front edge are the remains of two projecting 'tabs' that represent the point at which the buckle plate curved round to form the backplate, these flanking a central slot that originally would have accomodated the buckle frame's strap bar and pin. The main body of the buckle plate demonstrates decoration consisting an enthroned (?) haloed figure set within a rectangular raised border, traces of gilding surviving in the recesses of the figure, inferring strongly that the entire object was originally decorated in this fashion. Underneath this directly above the terminal is a circular aperture with a circular-sectioned copper-alloy rivet still preserved in-situ, which would have served to secure both sides of the buckle plate together. Preserved in fair condition with a rather coarse brownish patina, it measures a maximum of 38.04mm in length, 12.61mm wide at its widest point by 1.69mm thick at its midpoint. It weighs 3.94g.
