An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy rotary key (c. 1350-c. 1400).

The incomplete openwork bow is flat on both faces. There is no collar between the bow and shank. The oval shank is solid throughout its length. The shank is parallel in width and thickness. The simple bit is square and has no clefts.

This key is dull green and has a dull green patina in places. The breaks are old.

Length: 35.0mm; width: 12.4mm; thickness: 2.6mm; length of bit: 8.0mm; width of bit: c. 8.0mm; thickness of bit: 1.9mm. Weight: 3.22g.

A similar key, although made of iron, has been published and dated c. 1350-c. 1400 (Egan 1998: 113, fig. 86, ref: 307).
