A complete lead alloy miniature axe head of probable Roman date. The axehead is rectangular in plan and triangular in cross section, with the thinnest part being the blade edge. There is a hole pierced vertically through the butt with horizontal mouldings representing the bindings of the handle. The hole would have allowed the object to be worn as a pendat or for a small stick to be inserted. The blade is accentuated with a border next to the butt and down the outer edges. The reverse bears the same mouldings. Votive axes are not uncommon finds and most are dated to the Roman period, which seem likely for this example.
