An Iron Age gold stater, Selsey Two-Faced type of the Regini and Atrebates dating to 60-50 BC. This is an ABC 485, BMC 445, 447, 499-54. Rudd (2010:47) writes "Many more Selsey type gold staters [ABC 485-497] are found around Chichester than Silchester, indicating that this large and widely circulated series of triple-tailed staters was first struck by the Regini, not the Atrebates, and that they spread south to north, not the other way round."

Obverse: Wreath design with two hidden faces.

Reverse: Triple-tailed horse right, wheel below, charioteer's arms above.

Dimensions: diameter: 19.10mm; weight: 6.12g.

A number of similar gold staters were found dispersed in the same area and probably represent a hoard. HAMP-24A803

As the coins are over 300 years old and contain a minimum of 10% precious metal, this case qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
