A complete copper alloy post-medieval trade weight dating from the period AD 1714-1830 (George I - IV). There are four stamped marks on the face; the sword of St Paul (for London) at 12 o'clock, a letter A at 4 o'clock (standing for Avoirdupois - a system of weights using pounds and ounces as the units), an ewer at 6 o'clock for the Founders Company and the royal cipher of a crowned G at 9 o'clock. Both the front and reverse of the weight has concentric grooves and a central dimple or recess showing the object was lathe-turned. The trade weight was probably for an ounce or 3/4 ounce, weighing in at 0.86 oz.
