An incomplete copper alloy disc brooch of Roman date, c.AD 100-200. The disc is ovate with uneven, worn breaks on all edges. The outer face is decorated with six pellets arranged around a central pellet. Each of the outer pellets is connected to the pellets flanking it by a raised arcing line, creating a six cusped cell around the centre. Small red flecks remain within the central arced cell, which could be traces of enamel. The reverse is undecorated. Fragmentary traces of a lug and a catchplate remain, but the majority of the hinge mechanism and pin have been lost.
The metal is yellowish-brown in colour and worn. The brooch is 20.7mm in length, 15.0mm in width, 3.3mm thick, and weighs 1.9g.
Parallels are illustrated in Hattat (2000), p.344, fig.203, dated to the 2nd century AD. Similar brooches have been recorded on the database as IOW-3982F6, SF-C0E49D, and WILT-FD70FB.
