An incomplete copper-alloy harness pendant dating to the Medieval period, c. 1200-1400. The pendant is lozengiform in plan, the remains of a broken suspension loop projecting from its apex. On the front of the pendant is the raised design of a pair of crossed arrows set among three crowns arranged in a triangle (the arms of the abbey of Bury St Edmunds), though the enamel inlays and gilding that originally would have decorated these is now almost totally worn away. Preserved in fair condition with a rather coarse greenish patina, it measures 44.24mm in length, 37.62mm wide at its widest point, and 6.01mm thick at the suspension loop. It weighs 11.52g.
Similar harness pendants are illustrated by Ashley (2002) see p. 17, nos. 150-162. A number of harness pendants relating to the abbey of Bury St Edmunds have been recorded on the PAS database, including SF-7FC9FE, SF-307FDE and ESS-216D88.
