An incomplete and worn cast copper-alloy finger ring of post medieval period c. late 16 to early 17th century.
Description: The ring has a flat octagonal bezel and a broken D-sectioned loop. The bezel is decorated with an incised design of an octagonal frame containing an inscribed initials 'E H', as well as possible vines/garniture above and below. The breaks are worn suggesting they ocured in antiquity and the object is a mid-dark grey-brown with some green mottling.
Measurements: Ring - width: 19.54mm, thickness: 2.51m; height: 19.97mm, weight: 4.40g. Bezel - length: 15.63mm, width: 13.39mm.
Discussion: It was common for signet rings from late 16th century to cary the owner's inittials as the primary device.
